Rates

The more preparation and work I need to do, the more I expect to get paid. However, I am aware that not all of us are in the same financial situation.

Base Rate

My base rates for undergrad, middle school, and high school are $40, $80, and $120 per hour respectively.

For complex situations (test prep, individualized learning plans, etc.) rates may vary, subject to negotiation.

Payment

Payment is expected up front prior to or during the tutoring session.

Refunds

Refunds are made at my discretion. Refunds can be necessary in the event of technical problems, missed meetings, etc. Alternatively, students may simply reschedule.

Meetings

Meetings can be done either in person or online through Zoom. I am based in the U District but have a vehicle and can commute within 20 miles. I charge an additional $10 flat fee if I need to commute.

Confirmation Policy

I will send a confirmation text or email (whichever you prefer) 1 hour before every meeting. This is necessary for me to know you are going to be present. I expect that you will respond in a timely manner. Failure to respond indicates that you will not be present, and will be interpreted as a cancellation.

Cancellation Policy

You are free to cancel or change plans at any time prior to meeting. I prefer that you keep me in the loop as early as possible, and I will do the same for you.

Refusal of Service

I reserve the right to refuse service or cancel for any reason according to federal law. I do not discriminate based on color, nationality, citizenship, religion, sex, age, ability, veteran status, marital status, sexual orientation or gender identity, medical condition, political affiliation or primary language.

Philosophy

The purpose of tutoring is not to replace an education, but to supplement it. The goal of a tutor is to enhance personal academic growth. This is done by providing support, developing deeper understanding, sharing enthusiasm for education, teaching study skills, and ultimately, walking away when a student has the confidence and ability to succeed on their own.

A tutor is not just a homework solver. Academic integrity is important because shortcuts hinder not only your education, but also your personal growth. It means having the courage to embrace failure as an opportunity to learn.
